What is Vinyasa Yoga Flow?
Vinyasa Yoga means to place with intention. Using careful sequences of yoga postures and linking the breath to the movement, Vinyasa yoga flow creates a dynamic yet gentle work out at a moderate pace with plenty of time to explore foundation postures, to satisfy beginners and intermediate students, creating a balance of heat, strength and calm in the body.
Vinyasa flow came from Ashtanga Vinyasa developed by Sri Pattabhi Jois who recently diseased May 2009. Ashtanga has a set of yoga series that are followed exactly as described. Vinyasa Flow is less rigid in its approach as it allows the instructor complete creativity in its sequencing of postures, yet still going through warm up, standing postures, arm balances, inversion, forward fold, relaxation and breathing exercises.

How long is a group class?
It depends; beginner classes are 60 to 75 minutes, All Level class will be 75 to 90 minutes. Check the Class Schedule page for class description and schedule.

How fit do I need to be to start yoga? No matter how fit you are, when you start something new you have to ease into it. Yoga requires different types of strengths not used in other disciplines and yet anyone can do it starting with a beginner class.

What do I need to wear and bring to class? Wear loose comfortable breathable clothing that will allow you full range of motion in the leg and breathe deeply in your lower belly. Tops that will not fall over your head when you are in a down dog. Bring a mat if you have one, if not, mats can be rented for $1 at the studio or free at the gym. Bring some water. Leave your shoes and cell phones outside the practice room.

Is there anything I should not bring in class? Shut down your phone to maintain a peaceful environment and keep the space clear from phone radiation. We also ask students not to wear any kind of perfumes, essential oils or petrochemical based perfumes. Many of us have developed allergies to environmental pollutants and can really be put at risk when subjected to them in workout space. So PLEASE be considerate, thank you!

What can I expect from Vinyasa Flow class? Expect to have fun and be transformed. Usually these classes are done in a warmer environment to allow complete detoxification and promote increase flexibility of the body. It is creative, dynamic, rejuvenating, calming, fulfilling, meditative and simultaneously allows everyone in class to explore new poses while in a safe setting.

How do I know which level class to take? If you are a complete new student to yoga you will want to start with a beginner class (Community Flow). If you have some limited yoga practice you still want to start with a beginner class to get familiarized with the basics or the All Level class. If you find it too easy for you then move on to the All Level class.
If you are an experienced practitioner in a different form of yoga it is best to test the waters with an intermediate class before jumping into the advance class.
Beginner classes do not mean they are for beginners only. Even with 14 yrs of yoga experience and teaching when I go to a new yoga studio that practices a different yoga style, I like to check their beginner/intermediate class before moving up to a more advance one. This allows me to see where their class level is at. Levels will vary from studio to studio or from one teacher to another.

Do you chant in class? Usually not in a fitness center. But in a yoga studio we will start or end class with one to three Om, you are welcome to join in if inclined to do so.

I am allergic to perfumes and petrochemicals, is your space free of them? Yes. We ask that student come to class freshly bathed and refrain from wearing any kind of perfumes and even essential oils. We understand that most people today have developed an allergy toward perfumes and other artificial products so widely sold in our society.

How should I prepare for class? It is preferable not to eat 1:30 hour before practice.  If you are too hungry have a power bar , banana, smoothie or something light that will not interfere with movement and breathing. Bring a yoga mat, bottle of water, small towel and turn off your cell phone!

Can yoga help me "de-stress", get me more focused and reduce risk of diseases? Yes, overtime you will develop a more calm and focus attitude through yoga Asana and breath control of Pranayam. Your mind will find a relief to life's many burdens and allow you to feel more at ease with yourself and others.
The attention you bring to your breath synchronized with fluid, rhythmic movement in Vinyasa Yoga Flow allows your experience to become a moving meditation. Overtime, this helps reduce heart disease, lower blood pressure, reverse or prevent osteoporosis, decrease hormonal imbalance of all kinds, realign your body structure, alleviate or remove chronic back pain. All of this is supported by medical studies. You can "Google" any of these statement and find a study on it related to yoga and its benefits.
