I first stumbled upon Iodine and its therapeutic properties when I was battling severe cases of Candida. Along with Kefir, a change of diet, and a few other nutritional supplements, taking Iodine was my saving’s grace after what felt several years of agonizing uncertainty, not knowing what was the culprit of my many symptoms*, and before finding how to truly treat this bacteria overgrowth once I knew what caused my condition. (*Candida is the most difficult “condition” to diagnose as it manifest in so many different ways with a slew of symptoms that can easily be associated with other types of diseases),
The role of iodine in the body goes far beyond its function of making thyroid hormones. Unfortunately Big-Pharmas, The AMA, and physicians have made us believe over the years that iodine is dangerous, and we should use drugs instead.
Dr. Abraham’s research has shown that the thyroid gland prefers to utilize the iodide form of iodine, while other organs, such as the breast and ovaries, prefer the elemental form of iodine. Both of these forms are present in Lugol’s solution.
In the 1820s Dr. Jean Lugol, the French physician successfully treated many infectious conditions with these higher doses of this solution; Dr. Lugol combined elemental iodine (5 %) and potassium iodide (10%) with 85 % water.

A swollen ovary is a condition analogous to goiter, when the thyroid swells in response to iodine deficiency. In the case of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome the starvation of the ovaries causes them to become cystic, swollen and eventually unable to regulate the synthesis of their hormones leading to imbalances and infertility. Russian studies when investigating Fibrocystic Breast Disease also discovered that the greater iodine deficiency, the greater the number of cysts in the ovaries. Since 1928 it has been known that iodine found in the ovaries is the most important after the amount found in the thyroid.
When I started taking Iodine I didn’t personally knew much about it except for the extensive research I did on the internet. Once I received my first Lugol’s Iodine (2%)
Dr. Brownstein announced recently on his blog that everyone needs to be on a minimum of 12 to 13 mg of Lugol’s Iodine each day (the Japanese national level of iodine intake each day) to counter the effect of fluoride, chlorine and bromine in our water and foods as well as the new levels of radiations being currently discharged in the atmosphere with Fukushima’s ongoing disaster (as of April 30, 2011). This is a sure way to help keep your thyroid functioning properly.
Even though I muscle tested strong with Iodine (Nascent Iodine) I wanted to start with low dosage because I knew it was a powerful detoxifier.
And also because of the “scary story” that surrounds Iodine intake and to be on the safe side on all levels, and to make sure there was no adverse reaction.
I started with 1 drop daily for 2 days of Nascent Iodine Then; I increased to 3 - 5 drops daily for another 3 days without any reactions except feeling better by the day with lots of energy.
The second week I immediately jumped to 12 drops daily (4 drops 3 X /day) feeling better than ever, with no adverse reaction and was on for quick and natural recovery. I felt great!
At the time, not only I was dealing with high levels of Candida overgrowth but I had a very big sore lump on my left breast (Fibrocystic breast). My periods were heavy to the point that large blood clots were discharging all at once making it almost impossible to manage this time of the month without accidents.
Being in my early 40s, apparently healthy, eating the right foods (ok maybe eating a few too many sweets! hence Candida overgrowth overtime), physically active, teaching & practicing yoga, hiking, gardening, there was no reason for me to be this way physically at my age. I knew I had I had to look into this and take care of myself!
Within one day of taking iodine I felt 100% better; my lethargy and lack of energy was gone, my moods were uplifted, physical and mental sluggishness none existent, I slept deeper and better, the aches and pains in my body disappeared. Sweets craving gone, and my symptoms of Candida were improving each day. I even stopped craving potato chips (which I loved), cheese, and breads (which Candida Albican loves). After one month my lump on my left breast completely disappeared, the soreness was gone and the enlargement completely gone in 3 months.
I took the Iodine for 4 – 6 months then stopped as I felt good and healthy. (Don’t ask me why I thought I should stop the nutritional supplement since it worked so well!).
One year later I realized I needed to get back on Iodine.
I was having some serious issues with my spine and the left side of my body. My left hip was very painful especially at night. My cervical spine (C-1 & C3) was always misaligned and wouldn’t hold in place which gave me some serious pain throughout the body and kept me feeling tired. I was seeing my chiropractor 3 times a week for several months, I was getting great relief but my adjustments wouldn’t hold for very long.
Within one week on Iodine regiment, my pains and aches diminished drastically and I soon only needed chiropractic care once a week!
After one week I had no more pain on my left hip bone, but if I were to miss my dose of Iodine I would suffer the consequences. I noted that the pain lessened overtime when I missed taking a few drops.
I had been loosing a noticeable amount of hair (luckily I was born with lots of very thick hair so could spare a lot and it doesn’t really show except to me) over the past 3 yrs, after taking Iodine, these clumps of hair stopped falling and I could see lots of new hair growth around my forehead.
I lost all the fat around my waistline effortlessly in contradistinction to being unable to loose any of it the preceding years even with my physical activities.
My bowel movement had multiply into 3 or 4 a day instead of 1. And now have regulated themselves to about 2/day or after each meals.
After 1 month on the regiment, my cervical spine is now holding strong and my upper back /left shoulder pains were almost gone (feeling loose and open in that area). I am now working on retraining my left hip and left knee to stay in the right alignment after 30 years of being off due to a childhood injury. And all seems to be moving in the right direction as I keep seeing my chiropractor, practice yoga to retrain my body, and use the right supplementation.
As I experimented with Iodine, I noticed it worked best taking it several times a day instead of once a day. It has less of a detoxification effects and is more effective in providing the iodine needed to the glands, organs, bones and tissues throughout the day.
After 2 months, I now have lowered my dosage to 3 drops 2 or 3X daily of Nascent Iodine (One drop = 400mcg of iodine, 12 drops = 4800 mcg = 4.8mg) and do extremely well with it. If I feel a little tiredness or pain I add a drop or two during the day.
Not for an over-active thyroid (Hyperthyroidism), which is a condition where the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone either in a short period of time (acute) or long term (chronic).
This can be treated with the right nutrition for 6 months to a year, just like most other health issues, including auto-immune diseases & cancers (see Gerson Institute, Dr. Gabriel Cousens,..). According to Dr. David Brownstein few patients have problems with hyperthyroid (producing too much hormones). You will only find out when you take Iodine. Or have a physician who practices applied kinesiology and muscle test you for the dietary supplement.
This is why you always want to start with low amounts (1 drop of 2% iodine) and build up to 12 – 13 mg / daily if you do well with it (the national intake of iodine through foods by Japanese people). Be advised that this dosage is 100 X the RDA recommendations, it is a holistic regiment.

Nascent Iodine is paramagnetic meaning that the iodine atoms can hold an electromagnetic charge. Nascent Iodine has a huge energy release when consumed. This "charged" state is held by the atom until diluted in water and consumed, whereby it gradually loses energy over a 2-3 hour time span (another reason why you should take smaller dose of iodine throughout the day vs. all at once). During this time, Nascent Iodine is recognized by the body as the same iodine that is produced by the thyroid and is absorbed effortlessly by the body.

Recently, I was given the chance to experience this little simple device called the Sacowe
dgy by a good friend of mine who is a Craniosacral therapist and has been involved with healing modalities for 40 years.
A few months back he had an accident and fell on his coccyx on the hard pavement in the streets of Manhattan. This put him out of commission for 8 months with excruciating pains day and knight. The only time he felt fairly at ease was walking down the street. But how long can one walk before one gets tired and wishes they could sit down and rest?
To make a long story short after continuous chiropractic care, physical therapy, spinal decompression therapy, herbal supplements, and very little progress he ended up getting one of these Sacrowedgy as told by his chiropractor and on the first try (20 minutes at night before bedtime), not only he slept through the entire night like a baby (for the first time in months!) and woke up refreshed full of vigor and most importantly with hope to be pain free again!
Although I didn’t have any spinal pain when I tried the device a couple of days ago, I did feel my sacrum to be slightly misaligned. Now that my cervical spine (C-1) is strong and holding after 30 years of being “off” and misaligned, my mid back and sacrum seemed to be having difficulty to follow this new given alignment coming from the top (neck).
For those of you who are not familiar with spinal health; if your cervical spine is misaligned most likely the rest of the spine has to adjust to this new misalignment and compensate therefore will be pushing the mid back out and also sacrum or tailbone. One may not be aware of it right away or at all, but this misalignment will affect the blood supply into the major organs of the body and keep the nervous system from working properly affecting you emotionally, giving you mood swings, angry thoughts, short in temper, and difficulty to handle yourself at times.
Of course if your miss-alignment started in your lower back or sacrum this can also overtime affect the alignment of the rest of the spine in reverse too.

Using the Sacrowedgy: I lied down on this little plastic thingy and started to feel my sacrum relax immediately almost like a decompression relief. All the muscle attachment all around it were just giving up! I could feel some energy shooting up my mid back section and all the way to my neck. My sinuses on my left side where my injuries predominate were slowly opening up.
Then I noticed how I was tightening my gluteus resisting the release, and had to pay very careful attention to let go and relax during the whole process. After 10 minutes the energy were going down my legs and particularly the left side (where my misalignment occurs) and that side started to feel completely new and wonderful.
I must say the Sacrowedgy is not always very comfortable. I have also heard and read that some people have pain during the first 3 sessions of using the Sacrowedgy. I didn't have any pain at all besides feeling tension releasing and that is probably due to my regular yoga practice.
Make sure to support your neck with a rolled up towel under it to support the spine entirely and keep the neck lifted in the same way the sacrum is.
For the first few months do not use the platform that comes with it, it is too elevated for most people and this can create too much discomfort or pain. Wait until you feel that you need more results.
Ending the session: Before getting off the Sacrowedgy it is important to bring your feet flat on the floor and slowly “windshield wipe” your knees from one side to the other side, to bring back blood flow into the sacrum area and allow range of motion recovery in your lower back.
Do 3 or 4 semi bridge pose by slightly lifting the hips off the ground several times, tucking the tailbone up in between your legs as you lift your hips up.
Finally roll onto your side and lift yourself up to sit up sideways. Once ready stand up and walk around the house for a little while until you feel that all is back to normal so no pain or discomfort is being felt.
Result: I slept like a baby and straight through the night without even having to go to the bathroom! I felt really good and rested the next morning and best of all my sacrum was back in place, I had no more pain in my left hip and the rest of my spine felt perfect as well. What a treat this was!
